Happy World Poetry Day 2026!
Happy World Poetry Day and Spring Equinox weekend from my sis and I!
For this special day, I invited my sister, who is a poet and a poetry editor @faberbooks , to share poetry from an exciting reissue of Ted Hughes’ poems.
Available @faberbooks now!
And of course I gave it a vinous companion.
Poetry Collection: 📚
Flowers and Insects, Some Birds and a Pair of Spiders by Ted Hughes
The beautiful artwork is by American artist, Leonard Baskin
This collection focuses on 16 poems which are based around the Spring season and its accompanying nature. What better way to see in the Spring equinox and for us to enjoy our first taste of sunshine on my new roof terrace!
Lavinia beautifully reads, ‘Where I sit writing my Letter’ which shows a vivid, almost chaotic encounter with starlings. It powerfully conveys Hughes’ excitement in nature’s raw vitality and his sense that real contact with the non‑human world is powerful enough to shake up ordinary consciousness and everyday tasks.
‼️‼️I even lost an earring during this reading which shows how forceful his prose can be!
Wine Pairing: 🍷
I paired this beautiful book with an equally beautiful wine label and a delicious wine which actually gives back to nature!
Altano Douro Rewilding red, Symington Family, 2022
£12.00 Ocado
Altano Rewilding is a wine made by Symington Family Estates, in partnership with Rewilding Portugal – an organization which promotes biodiversity and protects wildlife in Northern Portugal’s abandoned and degraded land.
Every bottle that’s sold contributes a certain percentage to Rewilding Portugal and the Symington’s kickstarted this initiative in 2020 by donating 1 million euros to this conservation work.
It’s not a surprise that the Symington family have won ‘Green Company of the Year’ for their sustainability efforts globally.
AND this Portuguese wine recently scored 92 points from Decanter.
If you love juicy, dark plum filled reds with spicy tannins – this is for you.
Which nature poems do you enjoy? Please share below!
