IG LIVE with Jason Haas, Partner and GM of Tablas Creek Winery

This week, we’re excited to welcome renowned wine communicator Amelia Singer. @amelias_wine is an international award-winning Wine Communicator and Educator, Wine Guru on @JamieOliver‘s Drink Tube Channel, @HULU TV presenter on the international TV show, ‘The Wine Show’, previous Wine Writer for the UK’s most-read Food Magazine—@Waitrose & Partners Food Magazine, UK Ambassador for the California Wine Institute and Founder of Amelia’s Wine—an event and media business that offers a range of original, fun, helpful and ultimately relatable wine experiences and content.
In their conversation, Jason and Amelia discuss her growing up in a wine-loving family and how wine helped knit together her Californian mother and her European father. She shares the first wine she remembers identifying flavors in — it was a Viognier, and she was 10 — and how that family wine experience grew into food and wine gatherings when she was in college and a realization that there was a gulf between elite wine society and the three-for-£10 reality of most UK wine buyers that led her into a wine career. She shares how she pursued both international wine experiences and formal training through @wsetglobal and how that led to a weekly “basement bacchanal” that eventually caught Jamie Oliver’s eye and started her in video. She shares the history of the Wine Show and how they built stories about people and place that allowed wine to be the lens for deeper explorations of culture. Finally, she shares why she thinks that wine has struggled on TV, what we can do about it, and how it might better connect to newer generations through more interactive, immersive experiences that include other arts.
